Synchro-cyclotron
Synchro-cyclotron, cylindrical-shaped particle accelerator designed to accelerate protons. A cylindrical magnet bends the particle beams into a circular path, as in a cyclotron, an electric field being applied to accelerate the protons each time they come around the circle. In the synchro-cyclotron the frequency of the electric field steadily decreases to compensate for the increasing mass acquired by the protons as they approach the speed of light.
