Systems analysis

Systems analysis, method of studying the interactions of humans, machines, and other elements engaged in activity through the creation of mathematical models. The system is a particular environment of physical and social interaction (e.g., school, factory, economy) viewed as an abstraction so that it can be translated into mathematical statements describing its operation. These are then subject to logical analysis, which can be used to improve the efficient operation of the system. The field, developed in the 1930s, now makes extensive use of computers.
