Leo Szilard



Szilard, Leo (1898–1964), Hungarian-born U.S. physicist who helped pioneer the U.S. atomic bomb project. Along with Enrico Fermi, he designed the first self-sustaining uranium fission reactor. After 1945 he became a leader of the movement against using the bomb. Later he also made contributions in the field of molecular biology.
