Maxwell Davenport Taylor
Taylor, Maxwell Davenport (1901–87), U.S. Army general who largely organized the U.S. Army's first airborne units in World War II. He commanded the 8th Army in Korea (1953–55), headed the U.S. and UN Far East commands (1954–55), was U.S. Army chief of staff (1955–59), and served as ambassador to Vietnam (1964–65).
