Georg Philipp Telemann



Telemann, Georg Philipp (1681–1767), German composer. He was aprolific composer who worked well with musical forms popular in his day. He wrote operas, including Der geduldige Socrates (1721) and Pimpinone (1725); orchestral music, including Musique de Table (1733); concertos; and cantatas. His work was influenced by Italian opera as well as by earlier baroque composers, principally Johann Sebastian Bach. He served as musical director for the 5 churches of Hamburg (1721) and the Hamburg Opera (1722–38).
