Tenochtitlán



Tenochtitlán, capital of the Aztecs, now in Mexico City. Founded c. 1325 on an island in Lake Texcoco, connected to the mainland by causeways, it was a rich city of brick houses, palaces, canals, aqueducts, and a great square of temple-topped pyramids. It was destroyed by Hernán Cortés in 1521.
