Tet Offensive

Tet Offensive, in the Vietnam War, a coordinated cluster of attacks against cities and bases in South Vietnam by Vietcong and North Vietnamese forces, beginning on Jan. 30, 1968, the first day of the Tet (New Year) holiday. The offensive, which included a brief occupation of part of the U.S. embassy in Saigon, was costly to the enemy; nevertheless, it converted many Americans to the view that the war could not be won.
