Texas Rangers

Texas Rangers, law enforcement body, part of the Texas department of public safety. The first Rangers were 10 men employed (1823) by S.F. Austin to protect settlers from Native American and Mexican raiders. In 1935 the Rangers were merged with the state highway patrol.
