Themistocles
Themistocles (514?–449? B.C.), incient Greek politician and military strategist of Athens. He endorsed the development of the Athenian navy, which helped bring victory to Athens in their war against Persia. Themistocles is best known for his participation in the Athenian victory against the Persians in the battle at Salamis (480 B.C.). Suspicions due to political intrigues resulted in his exile to Persia, where he died on an estate presented to him by the Persian king.
