George Henry Thomas

Thomas, George Henry (1816–70), U.S. Union general victorious at Mill Springs (1862) and dubbed the “Rock of Chickamauga” for his stand at that battle (1863). His Army of the Cumberland destroyed General John Hood's army at Nashville, Tenn. (1864).
