Tirso de Molina
Tirso de Molina (1584–1648), pen name of Spanish author and playwright, Gabriel Tellez. He is known as one of the greatest play wrights of the Golden Age of Spain. Among the hundreds of plays he wrote, 86 survive, most notably The Deceiver of Seville (1630), which introduced the legendary character of Don Juan. A friar and a respected theologian, he wrote plays, stories, and poetry that reflected his knowledge and understanding of history, religion, and human nature. These include The Gardens of Toledo (1624) and Pleasure with Profit (1635).
