Titian
Titian (Tiziano Vecellio; 1487–1576), Venetian painter, leading Renaissance artist. He worked for Giovanni Bellini and Giorgione, who influenced his early work, before becoming Venice's official painter (1516). His perceptive portraits, monumental altarpieces, and historical and mythological scenes are famous for their energetic composition, use of rich color, and original technique. Among his works are La Gloria (1554), Rape of Europe (1562), and Adam and Eve (1570).
