Mark Tobey
Tobey, Mark (1890–1976), U.S. painter. Strongly influenced by Chinese calligraphy and Zen Buddhism, he developed his “white writing” style in the 1930s in small abstracts representing street scenes. His later, delicately colored abstracts have more intricate linear rhythms.
