Toboganning
Toboganning, sport of riding down snow or ice slopes on a sled or toboggan. Although sleds with runners are sometimes called toboggans, the term usually refers to runnerless sleds such as were originally developed by Native American hunters. The modern toboggan is generally 6–8 ft (1.8–2.4 m) long and 1 ft (46 cm) wide, and carries 4 people, one behind another. Artificial chutes for the initial acceleration have allowed high speeds. Bobsledding, a type of tobogganing, is a sport of the Winter Olympics.
