Toga

Toga, robe worn in ancient Rome. Originally worn by both men and women, it gradually fell out of favor with women. Made of soft wool, it was loosely draped in abundant folds over an undergarment called a tunic. Its color delineated the status, rank, or age of the wearer. Because it limited movement, it eventually came to be worn by the upper classes and politicians.
