Tournament

Tournament, or tourney, series of games; originally a combat between armored knights, usually on horseback. Popular in Europe in the Middle Ages, it provided both entertainment and training for war. In the 13th century the dangerous melée was replaced by the joust contest between only two knights, who tried to unhorse each other with lance, mace, and sword.
