Tsetse fly

Tsetse fly, name for 20 species of muscoid flies (genus Glossina). They are true winged flies very like houseflies, except that the mouthparts are adapted for piercing the skin of mammals and sucking blood. Widespread in tropical Africa, some species act as vectors of the trypanosomes that cause sleeping sickness.
