Turin



Turin (pop. 952,700), city in northwestern Italy. It is a major industrial center, with automobile (Fiat, Lancia), machinery, chemical and electrical industries. It was the capital of the kingdom of Sardinia (1720–1861) and the first capital of united Italy (1861–64).
