Valens

Valens (A.D. 328–378), Roman emperor from 364 to 378. He was actually co-emperor, ruling the eastern part, while his brother Valentinian ruled the western part. During his reign the Visigoths, a tribe living along the empire's northern borders, rebelled against the Romans. The Visigoths met and defeated the Romans in the battle of Adrianople.
