José Cecilio Del Valle



Valle, José Cecilio Del (1780–1834), Guatemalan political leader and author of the Central American Declaration of Independence (1821). Valle led Guatemala's fight for independence from Spain, and when the country was annexed by Mexico (1822), he was imprisoned. Although elected vice president of the Central American Confederation (1823), Valle declined to serve.
