Vampire bat

Vampire bat, South and Central American bat (genera Desmodus and Diphylla) that feeds on the blood of larger mammals and birds; the only parasitic mammal. The bat cuts a slit with its teeth and laps blood from the wound; anticoagulants in its saliva ensure a constant flow.
