Vegetable oil
Vegetable oil, substance obtained from the seeds of plants and the fleshy part of fruits. It consists almost entirely of fat, an important part of a healthy diet. It is used in both the production and the cooking of many foods. Soybean oil is the most commonly used vegetable oil in the United States, followed by corn, cottonseed, olive, peanut, safflower, and sunflower oil. Most margarines are made with soybean or sunflower oils as the main ingredient.
