Diego Velázquez
Velázquez, Diego (1599–1660), Spanish painter. In 1623, he became court painter to King Philip IV of Spain. His style was influenced strongly by his Flemish contemporary, Peter Paul Rubens, and also by Italian artists of the High Renaissance. His masterpieces include The Drunkards, Christ on the Cross, and The Maids of Honor.
