Verdin

Verdin (Auriparus flaviceps), songbird common in low deserts and brushlands of the U.S. Southwest and northern Mexico. The verdin is gray, with a yellow head, long tail, and sharp, black bill. It makes an oblong, thorny nest with a small side opening and the female lays 3 to 6 blue-green eggs. The verdin feeds on small insects and is usually seen singly but may travel in pairs or small family groups.
