Virginia City
Virginia City, “ghost town” in western Nevada, a leading tourist attraction, c.20 mi (32 km) south of Reno. The town was founded in 1859, and the exploitation of the Comstock Lode of gold and silver turned the community into a boom town overnight. A fire destroyed most of it in 1875, and the ore gave out by the 1890s.
