Volstead Act



Volstead Act, law passed by the Congress of the United States in 1919 to enforce the 18th Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibited the manufacture, sale, or transportation of alcoholic beverages within the United States. The amendment was introduced by Representative Andrew J. Volstead of Minnesota. The 21st Amendment repealed the Volstead Act (1933).
