Bruno Walter

Walter, Bruno (Bruno Walter Schlesinger; 1876–1962), German-born U.S. conductor. He was a protégé of Gustav Mahler, but his career in Europe was cut short by the Nazis (they forced him to leave), and he lived in the United States from 1939. He was renowned for his interpretations of Mahler, Wagner, Beethoven, and Brahms with the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic.
