Ernest Thomas Sinton Walton
Walton, Ernest Thomas Sinton (1903–95), Irish nuclear physicist. He shared with John D. Cockcroft the 1951 Nobel Prize in physics for their development of the first particle accelerator, with which they initiated the first nuclear-fission reaction applying nonradioactive substances.
