Wandering Jew



Wandering Jew, legendary man (identified as a Jew in the 17th century) doomed to wander the earth until the Second Coming of Christ as punishment for taunting Jesus as He struggled to His Crucifixion. This tale has been chronicled several times, in the medieval tale Flores historiarum; in “A Brief Description and Narration Regarding a Jew Named Ahasuerus” (1602); and in the play “Le Juif errant” (1844–45).
