Barbara Ward



Ward, Barbara (1914–81), British writer, economist, and commentator on the relations between the Western powers and developing nations. She was foreign editor of Economist magazine (from 1946), governor of British Broadcasting Corp. (1946–50), and a professor at Columbia Univ. (N.Y.C.; 1968–73). In her writings she stressed the importance of economic aid and international cooperation in such books as The Rich Nations and the Poor Nations (1962), Nationalism and Ideology (1967), and Progress for a Small Planet (1979).
