John Wayne
Wayne, John (Marion Michael Morrison; 1907–79), U.S. film actor, known mostly for his tough hero roles. He acted in low-budget westerns until his big break in 1939 in Stagecoach. Over the course of his career, Wayne appeared in over 175 films, including Red River (1948), She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949), Sands of Iwo Jima (1950), and The Quiet Man (1952). He received an Academy Award for his acting in True Grit (1969).
