Robert Clifton Weaver



Weaver, Robert Clifton (1907– ), U.S. economist, and secretary of housing and urban development (HUD; 1966–68). He was the administrator of the N.Y. Rent Commission (1955–59) and led the federal Housing and Home Finance Agency (1961–66) before his appointment by Pres. Lyndon Johnson as secretary of the newly formed HUD—a job that made him the first black member of a presidential cabinet.
