Wedding anniversary

Wedding anniversary, celebration that takes place at the yearly return of an original wedding date. In Western society it has become common practice to commemorate this event with a characteristic gift, symbolic of the number of years a couple has been married; e.g., silver represents a 25th wedding anniversary; gold, a 50th anniversary.
