Weight lifting
Weight lifting, bodybuilding exercise and competitive sport. As a contest, it has long been popular in Turkey, Egypt, Japan, Europe, and the former USSR, and has been a regular event in the Olympics since 1920. There are 3 basic lifts: the snatch (from the floor to over the head in a single motion); the clean-and-jerk (2 movements—first to the chest and then over the head); and the military, or 2-hand, press (similar to the clean-and-jerk but performed while maintaining a “military” stance).
