Weimar Republic

Weimar Republic, German government (1919–33) based on the democratic republican constitution adopted at Weimar in 1919. The constitution provided for a parliament of 2 houses and a popularly elected president. President Paul von Hindenburg made Adolf Hitler chancellor in 1933, whereupon Hitler suspended the constitution.
