August Weismann



Weismann, August (1834–1914), German biologist. He is renowned for his work on and theories about evolution. Weismann was interested in how a species passed to its offspring various traits, which traits could be inherited, and which could not. He wrote several books, the most famous being The Germ Plasm: A Theory of Heredity (1893).
