Henry Wells



Wells, Henry (1805–78), U.S. pioneer businessperson. With William G. Fargo, he founded Wells, Fargo & Co. (1852), which carried people, freight, and mail from New York City to California. With the acquisition of Benjamin Holladay's mail and stagecoach business (1866), Wells, Fargo & Co. became the most powerful firm in the Far West.
