Jessamyn West
West, Jessamyn (1907–84), U.S. author. A Quaker whose writings often reflect the ideals of the Quaker religion, West's most famous book is Friendly Persuasion (1945), a view of life in a rural Quaker family in the 1800s (she later adapted this book for the 1956 film of the same name). Other works include The Witch Diggers (1951), Cress Delahanty (1953), and Except For Thee and Me (1969), which chronicles the lives of various characters in Friendly Persuasion.
