Western Reserve

Western Reserve, northeastern region of Ohio on the south shore of Lake Erie. In 1786 Connecticut refused to cede this area, which covered 3,667,000 acres (1,483,982 hectares), to the Northwest Territory. In 1792, 500,000 acres were granted to Connecticut citizens whose land was destroyed during the American Revolution. The region joined the Northwest Territory in 1800.
