Wiesbaden

Wiesbaden (pop. 261,800), city in southwestern Germany, capital of the German state of Hesse. The word wiesbaden translates as “baths on the meadows,” and this resort, located in avalley of the Taunus Mountains, is known for its hot springs. The Romans enjoyed this area since the 1st century B.C. and considered it a spa—a resort where mineral springs are often found. People today still come to Wiesbaden for its mineral springs. Tourism is the economic base of the city.
