Wigeon



Wigeon, duck in the family Anatidae. Wigeons found in the United States (Anas americana) and those found in northern Europe (A. penelope) are the same size, about 19 in (48 cm) long. The U.S. wigeon, also called the baldpate, is known for its call, the sound whew repeated a number of times. These ducks feed on water plants, using their flat, broad bills. The male heads and throats are marked with white.
