Henry Wilson



Wilson, Henry (1812–75), U.S. senator from Massachusetts (1855–73), a founder of the Republican Party. He was chairperson of the Military Affairs Committee during the Civil War. Wilson devoted his life to the issue of the emancipation of slaves. He served as vice president (1873–75) in the second term of President Ulysses S. Grant.
