Winged Victory



Winged Victory, Greek sculpture dated c.180 B.C. depicting Nike, the goddess of victory, bringing a message of victory from the gods. The sculptor is unknown. In 1863 the statue, broken into 118 pieces, was discovered by a French archeologist. The statue was reconstructed; it stands today in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
