World Health Organization (WHO), specialized agency of the United Nations founded in 1948 and based in Geneva. Its services are available to all nations and territories. WHO advises countries on how to develop health services, combat epidemics, and promote health education and standards of nutrition. It also coordinates the standardization of drugs and health statistics and studies pollution.
