Battle of Wounded Knee
Wounded Knee, Battle of, massacre by U.S. soldiers of more than 200 Sioux men, women, and children at Wounded Knee Creek, S.D., on Dec. 29, 1890, in the last major battle of the Indian Wars. In 1973, 200 members of the American Indian Movement (AIM) occupied the Wounded Knee Reservation for 69 days, demanding a Senate investigation into the conditions of Native Americans.
