Wyss family

Wyss family, authors of and models for the famous children's story The Swiss Family Robinson. The story of a family's life and survival alone on an island was first created and written down by Johann David Wyss (1743–1818) as an entertainment for his children. Many years later in 1812, one of his sons, Johann Rudolf (1781–1830), who was at the time a well-known Swiss editor of folklore, edited and published his father's account. The novel was an instant success and was translated into English in 1814. The book, now available in many languages, is still a popular children's book.
