Yazoo River

Yazoo River, tributary of the Mississippi River, in the state of Mississippi. It begins near Greenwood and flows southwest 188 mi (303 km) to join the Mississippi near Vicksburg. A system of dams and reservoirs on the Yazoo and its tributaries has reduced flooding in the fertile cotton-growing region.
