Yellowlegs



Yellowlegs (genus Tringa), migrating shore bird of the sandpiper family, native to the Western Hemisphere and identified by dark wings, white belly and tail, and long yellow legs. The 2 species are the greater yellowlegs (T. melanoleuca), measuring 13–15 in (34–38 cm), and the lesser yellowlegs (T. flavipes), measuring about 10 in (25 cm). The birds nest in Canada and winter in the southern United States, around the Gulf of Mexico, and as far south as Chile.
