Zapotec

Zapotec, ancient native people of southeast Oaxaca, Mexico, and their descendants. They created a formative pre-Columbian culture about 2,000 years ago. Monte Alban, west of Oaxaca city, contains magnificent ruins of tombs, stelae, temples, and plazas.
