Zero population growth

Zero population growth, close approximation in numbers of births and deaths needed to stabilize a nation's population and prevent annual increases. To stabilize the U.S. population at its present level, the replacement ratio for families (excluding illegitimate births) is 2.54 children per fertile married woman. Zero Population Growth is also the name of an organization formed in 1968 by Richard Bowers, Paul Ehrlich, and Charles Remington to inform the public and legislators of the disadvantages of continued population growth.
